For years, there has been a stigma surrounding mental health problems. It is completely not normalized to struggle with things such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and many other mental health disorders. As a society we need to use our platforms and voices to give people who struggle with their mental health a welcoming community to talk about their struggles. I made this cylinder on the wheel then used underglaze to carve a quote into my vase. "People start to heal the moment they are heard." I chose this quote because it really resonates with my cause. The goal is to normalize speaking out about mental health problems in hopes of helping others feel comfortable enough to do the same.

Baking is one of my favorite hobbies. I love getting to try new recipes and share them with my loved ones. Seeing my friends and families faces light up when I give them one of my baked goods. I wanted to create a dish I could use to present my treats with because while the taste is important, looks are just as key. I made this cake platter by pinch potting a base and coiling a top piece. I finished the platter off with polka dots to give the dish a whimsical feeling. I can't wait to use this to serve cake!

Last week was teacher appreciation week so my class made gifts for all of the faculty. I chose two people to gift. These two people were Mrs. Weiler and Mrs. Sprague. On the left is my blue pencil holder. I hand-built this piece and added folds with a needle tool. I finished it with malted blue glaze. This is for Mrs. Sprague. The piece on the right is for Mrs. Weiler. I also hand-built this with the coil method and dip glazed it in purple pansy. This is a pencil holder as well. I hope they like their gifts!
